When we were in Terengganu, we had the pleasure of visiting Sean Hoo at his durian farm. Sean is a YouTuber who documents his durian farming journey to share to his audience. He and his father tend to a large piece of land which they mainly plants durian, but you can also spot other fruits like cempedak and nangka, as well as a special stingless bee called kelulut.
On our visit, Sean showed us around his farm and taught us the basics of durian farming. Some of the things we learned includes:
- How flowering occurs in durian trees
- How to identify durian grades - A, B, and C
- What is durian thinning and how to do it properly
- Why he ties his durian fruits onto the tree branch

After touring the farm, Sean and his dad, Mr. Hoo, opened a Black Thorn durian for us to try! The texture is rich and creamy, and has a nice alcohol flavour and a hint of bitterness that compliments well together.
Besides showing us around his own farm, Sean introduced us to 2 other farmers in the area with inspiring stories, Uncle Wong (Farm Visit Diaries #4)and 华仔 (Farm Visit Diaries #3).
Overall, we had a great visit to Terengganu thanks to Sean and his dad, and their hospitality made us feel welcome even when we were far from home. If you'd like to support Sean and watch more durian related farming content, subscribe to his channel on YouTube!
